Transportation is described as the way or means of moving materials and people, animals, goods and services from one place to another or from one location to another.

MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION
Means of transportation are grouped into two: Olden days means of transportation and modern means of transportation.
Olden days means of transportation include
i. Human-powered Transport: This is the movement of people and/ or goods with the use of human power.
ii. Animal-powered Transport: This is the movement of people and goods using working animals. Examples include: donkeys, horses, camels, bullocks.
iii. Canoe Transport: This is the use of canoes cut out from tree trunks, reeds, or pieces of wood sewn together for transport.
MODERN MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION
A. LAND TRANSPORTATION: This involves all activities of physical movement of goods and passengers on land. Land transportation is divided into three: road, rail and pipeline.
a. Road Transportation: There are three classes of roads in Nigeria, namely:
Trunk Road A
Trunk Road B
Trunk Road C

b. Rail Transportation: Rail transportation is the movement of goods and passengers from one place to another by a train.
c.Pipeline Transportation: Pipeline transportation refers to the movement of goods from one location to another through a pipeline. Pipeline transportation is good for chemically stable liquids or gas.

B. WATER TRANSPORTATION: This refers to all activities of physical movement of goods and passengers on bodies of water like seas, oceans, lagoons, lakes etc. The vessels that are used for this movement include barges, ships, canoes, boat etc.
Water transportation is of two types namely:
a. Inland water transportation: This involves the movement movement of goods and passengers on waterways like rivers and canals, within a country. Examples are River Niger, River Benue, Lagos lagoon.
b. Ocean Transportation: This involves the use of ships to carry goods and passengers on the sea or ocean route from one country to another. Example: South Atlantic routes, North American route and the Trans Pacific route.
C. AIR TRANSPORTATION:This involves the movement of goods and passengers by air through the use of aircraft like helicopters, aeroplanes , jets etc.

ii. CAPITAL RESOURCES: These are those things made by human beings for production of goods and services. Examples include: power/energy resources, money and equipment.
iii. HUMAN RESOURCES: These are the skills, abilities and qualities of the people of a country which can contribute to Walter creation. Without human resources, both natural and capital resources will lie idle. Examples of human resources are doctors, teachers, gardeners, cleaners, bankers etc.

Harmful substances can be defined as substances that are unfit and dangerous for human consumption. They are chemicals, products and plants that threaten the safety of people and pets.
EXAMPLES OF HARMFUL
i. Stale foods: These are foods that are no longer good or fresh for human consumption because there have been prepared and badly kept for a long period.
ii. Poorly cooked foods: When foods are not properly cooked, they can affect man’s health negatively.
iii. Infected foods: These are foods items that have been contaminated by poisonous organisms or insects such as :
Cockroaches, houseflies, tsetse flies, etc. Such foods contain bacteria which can cause diseases for man.
iv. Rotten Foods: These are food items that are already decayed and no longer good for human consumption.
v. Expired foods, drugs or drinks: These are foods, drugs or drinks that have spent more than their useful lives in the market or at home. They are no longer good for human consumption.
vi. Unripe fruits: These are the fruits that are not yet ready for consumption because they are not fully grown, therefore they have high level of sour or acidic taste.
vii. Impure Water: This is water that is not clean and safe for drinking. Such water can cause illness if drunk.
WAYS OF PREVENTING INTAKE OF HARMFUL SUBSTANCES
i. Food should be covered after being dished out.
ii. We should avoid eating stale, infected, rotten,poorly cooked and dirty food.
iii. Impure water should be avoided or boiled before drinking.
iv. Expiry date of foods, drugs and drinks should be checked before buying and consuming them.
v. We should patronize reputable foods, drugs and drinks.

iii. Local Bank: This is a specially made box either with clay or plank with a small hole through which money can be dropped into it.
iv. Monthly Contribution: Interested members of the community contribute an agreed sum of money.
Modern ways of saving
i. Insurance companies: People insure their lives and property for future purposes or in case of any unexpected occurrences.
ii. Cooperative society: People set up cooperative societies in order to save some of their income for future purposes. Members at entitled to borrow money from the society and pay it back with a little interest.
iii. Buying of shares and stock: Some people save their money by buying shares or stocks with reputable companies that offer shares for public.
iv. Bank: This is a financial institution where money and other valuables and precious goods or materials are kept.

vi. Local ceiling: This is the act of storing things in the ceiling of a house for protection, e.g. Yam.
B. Modern ways of storing things.
i. Refrigeration/ Freezing: This is the act of storing things in the refrigerator or freezer to keep them fresh and avoid spoilage, e.g. Meat, fish, vegetables and pepper.
ii. Cupboard: This is keeping things in specially made big standing furniture for protection against dirt, e.g. Clothes, jewellery, cosmetics, dishes and food.
iii. Bagging: This is storing things in a sack for future use, e.g. Rice, beans, garri and cocoa.
iv. Bottling: This is the storing of liquid items in a bottle to protect them from contamination, e.g. Vegetable oil, palm oil, drinks, and so on.
v. Canning: This is putting things into time in order to preserve them, e.g. Milk, sardine, corned beef, baked beans.
vi. Banking: People keep their valuables such as vital documents, certificates, money and jewellery, with banks.

ACCIDENT
An accident can be defined as an unexpected event that occurs suddenly and is capable of causing injury, damage and sometimes death.
TYPES OF ACCIDENT IN THE SCHOOL
a. CUTS: This is a situation where a sharp object like knife, blade, broken glass makes a deep cut on the body and causes bleeding.
b. BURNS: Burns are caused by hot substances like hot water,fire, hot plate, hot oil, acid, chemical in the laboratory and so on.
c. BRUISES: These occur when a student falls down or rubs the body against hard objects which grazes the skin.
d. FALLS: This is when a student is suddenly thrown down when playing on the field or in the classroom and injury and bruises are caused on the body. A slippery surface can cause this.
e. ELECTRIC SHOCK: This occurs when students touch an electric wire that does not have a cover ( live cable) .
f. INSECT BITE: Some insects are dangerous to the skin. So whenever they come in contact with with skin, they sting, thereby leading to an itch or pain which causes serious discomfort.
g. FIRE OUTBREAK:Fire can break out in the school premises. It can be fire from electrical or the laboratory.

WAYS OF PREVENTING ACCIDENT IN THE SCHOOL
a. All dangerous objects such as broken bottles, broken chairs, razors etc. Should be removed from the school premises.
b. Students should not play with dangerous weapons or chemicals.
c. Naked electrical wires should be covered with tape or replaced.
d. Students should be discouraged from playing rough in the school premises.
e. Fire extinguisher should be provided in the school premises to quench any fire outbreak
f. Students should not play with harmful insects.
STEPS TO TAKE WHEN ACCIDENTS OCCUR IN THE SCHOOL

i.  The case should be reported to the teacher, or an elderly person around
ii. First- aid care should be given to the person.
iii.    The victim should be taken to a nearby hospital/ clinic.
iv. The object that caused the accident should be removed.
v.  In the case of fire outbreak, the fire fire extinguisher should be used properly.

DANGERS IN THE WRONG USE OF ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES

Wrong uses of electrical appliances are the act of using appliances in ways that are different from the specified instructions guiding the use of such gadgets. Those instructions are stated in the manuals that come with the appliances. If an electrical appliance is misused, it can cause the following dangers:

i. It can lead to fire outbreak and loss of property.

ii. It can lead to breakdown of such appliance.

iii. It can cause physical deformity and injuries to the users.

iv. It can lead to poor functioning of the appliance.

v. It can lead to sudden death.

CORRECT WAYS OF USING ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES

For an electrical appliance to function properly, it has to be used in the correct way which include the following:

i. Cover the appliance when not in use

ii The appliance should be unplugged from the socket when not in use

iii. The appliance should be kept out of reach of children and handled properly to avoid breakages.

iv. It should be dusted regularly.

v. It should be kept in a stable place e.g. television, freezer or refrigerator.

vi. Electric stabilizer should be used to regulate power supply to the system, because high voltage can blow up the item, e.g. television, radio, freezer or refrigerator .

vii. Manual instructions should be followed to the letter.

iii. Education: Parents are to provide their children with qualitative education so that they become enlightened and able to contribute to the development of the society.

iv. Happiness: When families live together, they are happy in the company of one another.

a. Christianity: The followers believe in Jesus Christ as the son of God and the only way to enter the kingdom of God. Christians use the holy Bible.


b. ISLAMIC: The religion started in Saudi Arabia. They believe in only one God and Muhammad his prophet. They use the Quran.


C. AFRICAN TRADITIONAL
: Africans, before the advent of Christianity and Islam were purely traditionalists. They worship objects and man. Each society had her own type of religion e.g. Ogun, Ifa among the Yorubas.

We have several definitions to communication but I will give about three definitions.

1.Communication can be referred to as an exchange of information, news, ideas, opinions etc

2. It is the process of passing information or feelings among people and places and from one person to another.

3. It is the process through which information is passed from one person ( the transmitter) to another( the receiver) by means of mutually understood symbols

PRINCIPLES OF COMMUNICATION

  1. Clarity:Language must be clear
  2. Attention: Receiver of information must pay attention to information given.
  3. Sincerity: There should be sincerity in information that is passed across.

TYPES OF COMMUNICATION

There are two basic types of communication and they are

1.Traditional communication

2. Modern communication

1 Traditional communication is a local means by which information is passed or exchanged in local communities mostly in the olden days. examples are

iv. Metal gong

v. Smoke signal

2. Modern Communication is a modern means of communication by which information, news, ideas etc are shared among people in different areas of the world.

We have two groups of modern communication which are

i. Print media e.g. books, journals, magazines, newspapers, etc. Print media operates without electronic transmission.

ii. Electronic media e.g. internet services,telegram,fax,radio, television, telephone etc. Electronic media are those channels of communication that work using electronic transmission

MASS COMMUNICATION

These are means of sharing news and information with millions of people around the world. It also means sharing information with different people in different places at the same time. examples are television, radio etc.

INTERNET SERVICES

This involves the use of computers to link up all parts of the world to one World Wide Web system.
