    1. Given that x=1/2 and y=4,evaluate 3x2 + xy2

    3. The length of the parallel sides of a trapezium are 5cm and 7cm.If its area is 120cm2 ,find the perpendicular distance between the parallel sides.
    4. A regular polygon has 9 sides.What is the size of one of its exterior angles.
    5. A rectangular carpet 2.5m long and 2.4m wide covers 5% of a rectangular floor.Calculate the area of the floor.

    REVISION ON SETS,NUMERICAL PROCESSES AND TRIGONOMETRY

    To solve a quadratic equation, first multiply the 1st and last terms.Next, we find two factors of the product that when added gives the middle term.

    E.g. To solve 6x2 +7x-20,factorise as follows:

    6x2 x (-20)=-120x2 ;factors of -120x2 are 15x and -8x

    These gives 6x2 +15x-8x-20=3x(2x+5)-4(2x+5)=0

    Thus,(2x+5)(3x-4)=0 and this gives x=-5/2 or x=4/3
